What does Functional mean?
Functional stands for an individualized, client-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of dis-ease and promote optimal wellness. Everyone is an individual and has walked a path that has led them to where they are physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Through a functional approach you are looked at as a unique and complete person and not a diagnosis.
Filling in the gaps.
Functional Nutrition uses food, as natural medicines, and lifestyle changes to help restore balance, replete nutrient deficiencies, heal the gut, and more. Overall wellness is the focus versus just weight loss. We focus on the triggers of poor health, rather than focusing on treating symptoms of poor health, which fills in the gaps left untouched by traditional Western medicine.
Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, Functional Nutrition is a more holistic approach to health and wellness, taking into consideration many factors affecting individual's choices:
- Food Choices
- Activity Level
- Stress Level
- Pre-existing Conditions

Functional Lab Testing
Looking at the human body functionally takes different approaches and tests to find sources of imbalances. With Functional Lab testing, the select group of labs is dedicated to providing analysis from blood, stool, urine, saliva, and or hair samples to measure biomarkers that traditional lab testing ignores. Information is provided for a variety of systems including detoxification, endocrine, gastrointestinal, genetic, immune, hormonal, metabolic, nutritional, and others. What does this mean for you? Functional labs combined with your health history, current liefstyle and in-depth initial review, Julie will be able to look through a clear lens to evaluate your body’s imbalances and help you learn about, understand, and correct them holistically. If the lab test requires a blood draw we will be happy to connect you with a phlebotomist in your area to aid in the process. Our services are currently not covered by insurance, however many can be reimbursed through HSA and FSA accounts.
